Coleen Sabatini, MD, MPH

Dr. Coleen Sabatini is a Professor and Vice Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), with a pediatric orthopaedic practice based at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland (BCHO) in Oakland, California.

Dr. Coleen Sabatini has a pediatric orthopaedic practice based at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland (BCHO) in Oakland, California. Dr. Sabatini's clinical focus includes a range of pediatric orthopaedic conditions, with a particular interest in pediatric trauma/fractures, clubfoot and other pediatric foot and limb deformities.

Dr Sabatini's research focuses on health equity/disparities, global health, pediatric trauma, and improving access to, and quality of, care for children with musculoskeletal conditions, particularly for those in low-resource environments. She has taught and/or volunteered in numerous countries and currently focuses her global surgery work in Uganda, focused on education, research, and capacity building in collaboration with local partners there. Dr.Sabatini serves as an Associate Director of the UCSF Center for Health Equity in Surgery and Anesthesia (CHESA) and Co-Director of UCSF's Institute forGlobal Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

In addition to serving on the RJOS mentorship committee in the past, and now as the Chair of the Membership Committee, Dr.Sabatini is active in many orthopaedic organizations. She is currently the Chair of the International Committee of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has served on the Board of Directors of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society.

The RJOS Membership Committee focuses on recruitment andretention of members.  The committeedevelops and advocates for services and resources to meet the needs of ourdiverse members.

Current Committee Goals include:

  • Focus on retention of members as they progress through their careers – from medical students to Emeritus.
  • Evaluate the demographics of our membership and increase diversity within the organization and leadership.
  • Create feedback systems for members to make suggestions to the organization to enhance offerings for members.
  • Offer outstanding benefits to members in allcategories.
